Machakos youths have been urged to work with the government on development matters.
Addressing various youth groups at Kola in Machakos on Tuesday, county deputy governor Bernard Kiala said that the county has given youths an opportunity to better their lives. He stated that various projects have been initiated in which young people should come forward and engage in.
“We want to appeal to our youths to come forward and work with both the county and national government in dispensation of services,” he said.
The deputy governor at the same time urged youths to apply for development funds and loans so that they can start small business.
He observed that unemployment is rife in the area saying it can be reduce if young people take the initiative of seeking development funds.
Kiala cautioned youths against engaging in activities that will disrupt peace and instead urged them to be peace ambassadors.
He called on leaders across the Ukambani region to help youths from the region access employment opportunities.
Kiala indicated that despite many youths having formal education most of them have no jobs and can hardly meet their basic needs. He observed that economic development will only be realised if unemployment and high poverty levels are addressed.
