Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has urged Kanu chairman Gideon Moi to work with the opposition as it seeks to unseat President Uhuru Kenyatta in the August 8 elections.
Speaking on Wednesday at Bomas of Kenya, Joho said the opposition needs Moi and other like-minded leaders to front for an alliance that will send President Kenyatta’s government packing.
The outspoken governor accused the Jubilee administration of undermining and suppressing Kenyans, adding that it will not survive in August.
“We are appealing to our brother Gideon Moi to join us (the opposition) as we seek to liberate the country from poor leadership, corruption and tribalism,” said Joho.
“From what I know, Gideon Moi shares the same views with the opposition and we urge him to feel free and work with us,” he added.
There are speculations that the Baringo senator is on the verge of joining the opposition to form the National Super Alliance (NASA).
Speaking on Tuesday during an interview on NTV, Kanu secretary general Nick Salat said that the party shares the same views with the opposition.
He, however, said that the decision to join or form an alliance with other parties lies with the party delegates.
Opposition top leaders are said to be courting Moi who has fallen out with Deputy President William Ruto.
The two clashed on Monday during the burial of veteran politician Mark Too in Uasin Gishu.
The Deputy President has been calling on Gideon Moi to dissolve Kanu and join Jubilee, a move the Baringo senator has refused, saying Kanu will remain independent but will support President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election in August.
