A 27-year-old man, who was a worker at a farm of the former veteran politician  Nicholas Biwot, was found dead on Friday morning.

The deceased identified as James Kimutai was found dead in a swamp in Samabul village in Kabiemit, Keiyo South.

Kabiemit chief William Murgor said students stumbled upon the body as they crossed the swamp on their way to school at 7am.

Murgor said Kimutai left work on Thursday evening.

"He was heading to his home from Biwott's farm. We suspect he was drunk at the time of the incident," said the chief.

He added that the deceased may have gotten stuck in the mud.

"We will establish the cause of death after a postmortem. Police are already investigating", said Murgor.

The body was taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.

He urged locals to avoid walking through swampy areas while drunk to avoid unnecessary deaths.
