Disgruntled workers who were sacked by Dominion Farms  Limited have vowed to camp outside the Yala swamp to block trucks transporting sugarcane.

The workers say they are ready to camp in the area for 24 hours vigil to ensure the American owner of the farm gets no profit from his produce.

The company that was initially growing rice, later extended to sugarcane farming in the vast swamp.

Speaking to the media at the farm on Thursday, the workers led by Stephen Odhiambo Achieng lamented that sugarcane has continually being brought into the farm despite Dominion farm saying they halted their operations due to a hostile environment.

“We were told that the company operations stopped from the beginning of November 2017 and we are wondering how the cane has been leaving the farm,” he said.

They called on the government to intervene and have the company pay it's 350 laid-off workers their dues amounting to Sh350 million and Sh900 million for suppliers before it winds up its operations.
