Following the ban on plastic bags usage, workers of Bobmil Industries, a company that manufactures polythene bagsin Nairobi, have on Monday held demonstrations.

According to the employees, they will be rendered jobless and are the government should address their plight.Reports indicate that the workers were set to visit the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) offices to have their grievances addressed.

The ban on plastic carrier bags came into force on Monday, and anyone found selling, manufacturing or carrying them could face fines of up to Sh4 Million or prison sentences of up to four years.

The government says the ban will help protect the environment but manufacturers argued that 80,000 jobs could be lost.A court on Friday rejected a challenge to the ban.
