Athi River based Export Processing Zone's textile workers have indicated their fears to lose jobs when the companies move to Ethiopia as roumers has it.
Through the Textile Workers Union's Athi River Branch Assistant Chairman, James Boyo, the workers had received communication indicating that the EPZ headquaters would be moved to Ethiopia.
"We are informed that the EPZ headquaters might be moved to Ethiopia as per communications which the workers already have," said Boyo.
According to the Unionist, a number of workers from different textile industries within the zone had received letters alerting them that work load would soon reduce hence need, "Kujipanga."
Boyo said the move would affect several workers with their families arguing that the zone has hire hundreds of Kenyans who cannot be absorbed elsewhere at once.
He disclosed that the Athi River's EPZ branch was the largest in Kenya with the greatest product production as far as the textile industry is concerned.
The workers through the union requested that they be retained in their duties even if the EPZ headquaters was moved to Ethiopia as had been indicated claiming that most of them would suffer due to Kenyan's hard economic time if laid off as indicated.
Attempts by this reporter to reach managements of various textile industries within EPZ were futile since media was not allowed access.
