Moses Otieno and Ishmael Murimu were found guilty by chief magistrate Catherine Owino for the offence they committed on May 27, last year in Riat, Kisumu County.

The court was told that the two were working for the owner of the cows. Otieno was a herd’s boy while Murimu was the caretaker.

They colluded with cattle merchants to sell the animals while the owner was away.

After discovering that his two cows were missing, Mr Stephen Simani immediately reported the matter to the police who launched investigation. The two were were the prime suspects because they were present at the compound when the cows disappeared.

They were later traced to Nandi County.

In defence, Otieno told the court that he was acting on the orders given to him by the caretaker to release the cattle to the merchants.

However, Murimi denied that he had not been involved in the whole scheme to steal the cows and he was wrongly convicted.
