Members of various workers unions in Nyamira County are up in arms over their delayed salaries for over five months.
Issuing a strike notice to the county government this morning, the unionists lashed at the Deputy County Governor Amos Nyaribo for calling for staff headcount whenever the workers sought to be paid.
The workers belonging to kenya County government workers union, National Union of Nurses, Union of Clinical Officers and Civil Servants among others threatened to paralyse all county activities until they are paid.
Speaking on their behalf, NUN organizing Secretary Richard Oruta accused Nyaribo of using workers to fight his political battles by using head count as a gimmick.
Outa said the workers were fed up with lame excuses to delay their salary hence putting them in awkward situation with their families and other dependants whom they fend for.
He said the public Service Board, and the County government among others are aware of the ghosts in the payroll and should deal with them rather than victimize the innocent workers.
County government workers union representative who is also the interim Secretary for the county umbrella workers union Patrick Mobegi demanded that the impending head count be suspended until subsequent salaries are paid.
The civil Servants Union representative Evans Ogaka demanded that salaries be paid by 5th of every month.
Ogaka termed it unconstitutional not to pay workers saying it was their right.
Representing Clinical Officers, Dr. Lameck Omweri decried delays in payment of workers salaries for all devolved functions and appealed for action adding they depended solely on it as they did not have any allowances.
