Young women in informal settlement areas in Nakuru town will benefit from fashion design programme being implemented by World Bank.

Speaking to this writer Ruth Mbagaya Youth Creative Centre coordinator said the programme is being sponsored by World Bank through Nakuru County Government.

The five years programme is expected to benefit at least 1000 women leaving in informal settlements.

“This programme basically aims at eradicating poverty through the enhancement of self employment among young women in informal areas,’’ said Mbagaya.

She noted that the fashion design sector was most preferred by young women in the informal sector this is according to a survey carried out early this year.

“We are still recruiting participants and creating awareness. What we want to infuse in our young women is the spirit of creativity and hard work to solve to address poverty,’’ said Mbagaya.

The programme will be facilitated by experienced fashion design experts and tutors from the county.
