The funds will be channelled to infrastructural development, provision of clean energy, water projects and internet connectivity via fibre optic links.

According to Mukthtar Diop, the vice president of the World Bank said the North Eastern counties have been left behind in development and so there is a need to direct the funds to benefit the regional residents so as to make them at par with other Kenyans across the nation.

In a meeting held in Nairobi on Friday, the seven North Eastern governors including Nathif Jama, applauded the initiative by the global financial agency, noting that their counties will finally rank as other counties across the country in terms of developments.

Other county governors present in the meeting were Ahmed Abdullahi of Wajir, Ali Roba of Mandera County, Godana Doyo of Isiolo County and his deputy Mohamed Guleid.
