His name has been inscribed in the memory of the African continent and by extension the world of football. He is considered by many as the greatest African player ever.
He is known as Roger Milla, but in his native nation, he is referred to as Mr Cameroon. Rodger Milla is a legend. An ambassador of African football and an icon of the 90s football who is still influencing many.
Milla is remembered by many for his performance for the national team, where he singlehandedly helped the Indomitable Lions to the last 8 of the 1990 World Cup, becoming the first African nation to achieve that fete.
He scored both goals in the second-round match between Cameroon and Colombia before performing his trademark dance by the corner flag in the 2-1 win.
Milla was born in Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon, and began his career with Eclair Douala before moving to Leopards of Douala.
His star continued to rise and he won the Cameroon League and Cup medals playing for Tonnerre of Yaounde.
He was named Africa's Footballer of the year in 1976, and he moved to France in 1977 and spent two seasons at Valenciennes before being transferred to Monaco.
He won the French cup with Monaco in 1980 and with Bastia in 1981 and collected a French Second division championship medal with St. Etienne and scored 152 goals in the French league.
He played 81 times for Cameroon, and his last appearance was in the 1994 World Cup, where he scored a goal against Russia in the 1994 World Cup, making him the oldest player to ever score in the final stages of the tournament.
He changed his name from Miller to Milla to sound more African.
