At that time, recalls former Tusker FC midfielder Jackson Temu, Cameroon had struggled to qualify for Italy tournament and there was little hopes of sparkling in the game.

But the decision to recall 38-year-old retiree Rodger Milla, turned out to be President Paul Bia's most exciting moment in life.

"As a young player and  supporter of Cameroon, I was opposed to the idea of recalling Milla. At that age, its rare for a player to contribute anything substantive," he said in an interview.

He added: "However, I was shocked to see the old man flying higher African flag. He tormented participants and he remains our hero until now."

Having scored against holders Argentina, Milla whould produce masterclass performance in the round of 16 against a stubborn Colombia.

But two controversial penalties for England knocked out Cameroon in a thrilling 3-2 defeat but the African representatives left the extravaganza heads high after being the first team from Africa to reach that level.

At 42 in 1994 at America, recalls Mr. Temu, Milla would become the oldest ever player to score in World Cup after converting against Russia in a 6-1 defeat.
