This year's World Food Day (October 16), event, heads to Busia County.
The event which comes even as over 800 million people globally are faced with hunger, kicks off Monday, at the Amukura Sports Ground in Teso South.
The celebrations comes at the time when the county is reportedly not secure in terms of food which is attributed to Foul Armyworms which ravaged most parts of the County leading to low harvests.
Farmers were expected to recoup their produce during the second harvest but the sale of green maize especially from Teso South has worsened the situation.
Most farmers who harvested their maize this year are selling them at a throw away price of Sh60 per 2kg container (Gorogoro).
According to the World Food and Organization, the world is on the move. More people have been forced to flee their homes than at any time since the Second World War due to increased conflict and political instability.
But hunger, poverty, and an increase in extreme weather events linked to climate change are other important factors contributing to the migration challenge.
Several agricultural institutions and stakeholders are expected at the event, whose theme is "Change the future of migration. Invest in food security and rural development."
