[Photo/Dennis Chacha]Residents of Bomariba ward are worried after Igonga – Gesero – Nyagwekoa – Gesonso – Kisii town road was blocked for construction.The residents who are traders said they have been forced to use long routes to access Kisii town.
They faulted the Chinese contractor for failing to consult residents before the road was closed.
“Since Monday the road has been closed because the contractors are at the site with tractors and big trucks that have blocked the road completely. The contractor didn’t give even a notice about the closure of the road and this has affected transport to Kisii town,” said Nyachwaya Mariko.
Vincent Okemwa, Kisii county employee said he has been using a long route since Monday from his home to work.
“I am now using Mogumo – Nyamira – Suneka route which is too far and am using Sh500 daily on transport because I use a motorcycle which is faster since there are no PSVs operating from my area,” he said.
Okemwa said the contractor could have advised locals in advance about the closure of the road for easy transport preparations.
