Garissa Town. [Photo/sunatimes.com]Just like many other places, Garissa suffers stereotypes that are, more often than not, wrong. These stereotypes have helped feed a certain negative perception of the great county. Here are some of the stereotypes: 1.Garissa is overrun by Alshabaab: There is a belief out there that Garissa County is administered by Alshabaab. This perception has been fueled by some attacks in the county. This is not true, Garissa is effectively under the Kenyan government. It also has a county government under the stewardship of Governor Ali Korane.2.All people are Somalis: Garissa is a cosmopolitan county with people from a wide array of ethnic extractions. We have Kisii's, Kikuyu's, Luhya's and other tribes, not just the Somalis.

3. All people are Muslims: The dominant religion practiced in the county is Islam but that is not the only religion. We have Christians and people dabbling in other religion. The perception that only one religion is practiced in Garissa is wrong.Garissa is a multi-religious county.
