As national chairman Mudzo Nzili inches closer to his retirement in May, KNUT vice chair Wycliffe Omuchei is set to take over the position.
According to Secretary General Wilson Sossion talks are underway and will continue to be discussed up until December.
Sossion expressed his confidence in the appointment and is looking forward to working with Omuchei.
"He has the means and minimum threshold to be KNUT chair. I have no doubts whatsoever delegates will confirm him as chair in December," Sossion said as reported by The Star.
He added that the first vice chairman position is also vacant and will be soon given to one of the members from Central while the second vice chairman position will be made vacant should Omuchei be selected.
"We expect delegates from those regions to give us competent individuals who can be voted into those positions," he said.
Omuchei says he is ready to take on the new and called on Kenyan teachers for support.
"With that experience, I believe I have grown in the ranks of the union."
"I now present myself to Kenyan teachers and present my candidature for national chairman," Omuchei said.
