Boda boda operators in Yatta constituency have been advised to apply for soft loans in order to expand their business ventures.
Yatta MP Francis Mwangangi addressed boda boda operators at Yatta town on Monday saying that soft loans would see the operators expand business and help curb unemployment.
The MP said the boda boda sector has employed many youths who were languishing in unemployment.
“You (boda bodas) should seek soft loans from banks and other institutions so that you can advance your ventures,” he said.
The lawmaker indicated that the lack of job opportunities remained a big challenge for many youths in the area.
He observed that many young men and women were desperately hunting for job opportunities that are hard to come by.
“Many of our youths are educated and skilful, but they have no jobs,” he said.
Mwangangi called on the county government to address unemployment and rescue many youths. He said that though various development funds are in place, they were not sufficient to cater for many youths.
The lawmaker however encouraged youths to apply for the existing funds and start businesses that would better their lives.
Mwangangi said he was working with the county and the national government to come up with ways that will curb unemployment.
He encouraged local leaders to come up with policies and measures that could curb unemployment.
