Addressing journalists at his Yatta office on Monday, the MP asked residents to take precautionary steps that will keep cholera at bay.

Mwangangi said he has written to the sub-county public health officers asking them to put in place measures that will prevent the disease outbreak.

The MP said that cholera can easily be prevented if the appropriate sanitary measures are put in place.

“I want to advise Yatta residents to make sure that they drink boiled water and also make sure that they consume well cooked food,” he said.

The MP urged the Machakos county government to supply locals with clean piped water.

He said that lack of access to clean water is a health threat to many residents.

The MP further asked the government to unclog drainage pipes that have been filled with dirt.

He observed that poor drainage and failure by county workers to collect garbage puts the lives of Yatta residents at risk.
