Yatta residents have accused the OCPD of failing to deal with deteriorating security in the sub-county.

The residents further accused the OCPD for poor coordination of security activities and also allowing illegal sand harvesting.

“Crime continues to sprawl in Yatta especially in our estates. We are no longer safe. Nothing fruitful has been achieved despite our several complaints to the OCPD,” said Zablon Kiilu, a trader at Yatta town.

Kiilu said that spates of criminal activities mostly muggings have been reported in Yatta town.

He said that despite the police patrols being conducted, security still remains a challenge.

Mwangangi has given the sub-county security committee a week to have the OCPD transferred.

Mwangangi said that security of citizens cannot be put in the hands of a person who is not capable of providing it.

The MP further asked security officials in the area to up their game or be forced out.

“There are many competent Kenyans who are willing to work and deliver. Therefore, leaders feeling that they are not capable should vacate office immediately,” he said.

Mwangangi urged residents to be active and help root out non-performing government officials.

When reached for comment, the Yatta OCPD declined to talk about the issues raised saying that he will respond soon.
