Yatta sub-county has announced that there will be no sitting of mock examination as this has been one of the reasons behind massive students strikes.
Confirming this on Wednesday, the Yatta sub-county Director of Education Elkana Nyaga stated the decision had been reached following a sequence of strikes as the exams draw closer.
"We have come together as principals and have scrapped mock examinations because students are fearing the intense competitions," said Nyaga.
A decision to have another system of scheduling exams was also settled on, so as to evaluate on completion of the Syllabus.
"We have instead introduced teaming up of a group of schools to form clusters so as to evaluate how polished the Syllabus is in preparation for the National examinations," he added.
The Yatta education boss was speaking after a conference with school principles from the sub-county.
This comes at a time when many schools have been burned down not only in Yatta sub-county but even in Machakos County.
The Cabinet Secretary of Education Fred Matiang'i has stated categorically that punitive measures will be taken on students who are found guilty of organising school fires.
