Masinga Technical Training Institute that was set to begin last year had been halted by the ministry of lands officials following lack of title deed where the institution was to be situated.

According to the Principal, Prof Francis Mathooko, the construction exercises are set to begin immediately.

Prof Mathooko was speaking while addressing the press, contractor and area residents on Thursday afternoon in Masinga at the site.

“The structural activities are set to begin as soon as possible as the government has given us a go ahead. We have had difficulties as this area of Masinga has not been issued with title deeds,” he said.

He added, “Last year it was difficult as we were asked to apply for the land ownership documents. However after negotiating, the ministry has allowed us to start the work as the documents are being processed.”

Masinga technical institute will be the first branch under Machakos University College which was launched in 2011. Prof Mathooko is also the Principal of Machakos University.

He further urged the contractor given the tender to take the given time of construction and involve the area residents in the activities so that they can benefit from the construction jobs available during the process.

Francis Macharia, the Director of Combat Construction Company which is contracted to do the job promised to take the time scheduled to complete the project.

“I will ensure to use the instructed time to complete the construction so that by next year, students get admitted and the school kicks off,” said Macharia.
