A man stunned a Nakuru court on Monday when he claimed he had been advised by a doctor to use bhang to soothe aching teeth.

Evans Wanyama told chief magistrate Joel Ng’eno that the one roll of bhang he was found with on January 23 was medicine for his teeth.

The magistrate ordsered that the accused be taken to hospital for a medical check-up to ascertain his mental status before the trial starts on May 15.

In the same court, a 35-year-old businessman was accused of obtaining Sh202,000 from a client by false pretence.

Moses Maina who denied conning Jane Waweru on diverse dates between November 5 and 6, 2014 at Nakuru’s Wakulima market.

The court heard that the accused, who is said to have been in the company of another man still at large, obtained the cash from the potato dealer pretending to be in a position to sell her 80 sacks of potatoes.

He denied the charges and was released on Sh150,000 bond with a surety of a similar amount to secure his temporary freedom while fighting the charges.

However, the magistrate urged the complainant and the accused to consider solving the matter out of court. Hearing of the case was slated for May 15.
