Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati has admitted that there were errors in the just concluded general election but that they were minor.

Speaking over the presidential petition in which Opposition NASA wants the election conducted again because of mistakes by the IEBC, Chebukati said the mistakes IEBC made were too minor and that they could not have affected the winner of the election.

“The said errors were minor and did not have any effect on the outcome of the presidential election as evidenced,” Chebukati said.

He exempted his commission from any foul play, saying that IEBC followed to the detail every law set to govern the elections and that they did everything humanly possible to ensure they accommodate and resolve any issue raised by the competing parties.

“To ensure transparency, legitimacy, and credibility of the process, the petitioners and their agents were given opportunity and fully participated in the tallying of the presidential election results,” he said.
