Kisii County residents have condemned Kisii county Women Rep Mary Otara for misusing the Affirmative Action Fund.
She has been accused of using close family friends to benefit from the funds.
"I don't understand this type of development perpetuated by Kisii County Women Rep and its importance to the society. She is using funds meant for development to benefit only a few. Her recently concluded event is a total waste of money," said Dominic Nyabwanga.
"How comes she gives coordination committee of such event made up of 25 members Sh2,500 as a daily allowance? Is this empowerment or doom to a society," he added.
"Mary Otara is more of a liability to the society than a leader," he added.
Gladys Mabuka noted that since Mary was given the funds, she has forgotten to ensure that the money is used appropriately to benefit constituents of Kisii county.
"I do not know whether she is using the money in the right way. Purporting to be using the money to nurture talents will not solve the poverty facing women from the county," said Mabuka.
"She should have instead used the money to provide financial support to women and youths to start small businesses rather than taking young girls to the field, play and at the end, they are given a bottle of soda and bread," she said.
