Makueni Member of Parliament Dan Maanzo has cautioned Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i against banking on the National Assembly National Security Committee to salvage him from his recent clash with the Judiciary.

Matiang'i on Tuesday last week appeared before the committee to defend himself over allegations of disrespecting court orders, after downplaying court summons to answer to National Resistance Movement (NRM) leader Miguna Miguna's recent troubles at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

However, according to Maanzo, who also constitutes Miguna's legal team, the committee cannot interfere with the case currently lying before the high court judges, saying that the CS's contempt of court case remains on.

''His move to run to the parliamentary committee for protection will not benefit him as the team, just like any other body, cannot adress the issue and cannot, therefore, save him from the contempt of court charges that he has been convicted of. His only remaining choice is the court of appeal,'' said the opposition lawmaker in an interview on Radio Citizen's Debe La Citizen on Sunday.

Maanzo also took issue with Matiangi's attack on the Judiciary during the appearance, noting that it has further widened the existing gap between the Judiciary, Executive and Legislative arms of the government.

''The gap separating the three wings keeps widening by the day and more efforts need to be applied and consensus arrived at to protect the nation from suffering as a result of the infighting,'' he said.
