Opposition leader Raila Odinga has blamed foreign diplomats stationed in Nairobi for the current political impasse in the country.
The NASA leader on Thursday accused the envoys of favouring President Uhuru Kenyatta of Jubilee Party and challenged world powers like the US to act over the situation in Kenya.
Raila claimed that the envoys had sided with President Kenyatta and his government in the disputed presidential election.
He said the envoys were part of the problem in Kenya instead of assisting the country to resolve the impasse caused by what he termed as “lack of free and fair elections”.
“The envoys have not succeeded in diffusing the crisis. Let me be blunt again. They sometimes have contributed to the problem,” Raila said while addressing an audience at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies, Washington DC.
“I have come to Washington to convey a simple message. We need a much fuller engagement from the many arms of governance that your country possesses to assist the envoys based in Nairobi,” he added.
