Meru County Governor Kiraitu Murungi has castigated NASA leader Raila Odinga for rallying his supporters to boycott the fresh presidential election.

Speaking when he campaigned for President Uhuru Kenyatta's reelection in his county, Kiraitu said he did not understand why Raila, with whom he had fought for the country's second liberation, had changed his tune by pulling out of a legitimate election.

"If they don't want to participate in the election, how are they going to remove this government from power, if not through the same means we were against?" he posed, as quoted by The Standard.

The county boss warned the former Prime Minister against entertaining ideas of ascending to the presidency other than through the constitutional means.

"It would be an act of treason for the NASA leaders to resort to unlawful means of gaining presidential powers," Kiraitu added.

Speaking at the same rally, Imenti North MP Rahim Dawood urged the residents to turn up in large numbers and offered to help to reach the polling centres.

"I will facilitate those who, for one reason or another, are not able to reach their polling stations," the MP said.
