Following the nomination of Court of Appeal Judge David Maraga for the post of Chief Justice leaders from Kisii County have hailed JSC for picking Maraga.
Addressing the Media on Thursday at his office, Kisii county Governor James Ongwae congratulated Maraga for his new appointment.
“I will like to send my congratulation message to our brother Maraga for emerging the top with the highest percentage against his competitors,” said Ongwae.
Ongwae said that he has confidence that Maraga will be approved by parliament so that he can serve the country with integrity more so in judiciary sector.
“I am pleased to learn that the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has picked Court of Appeal Judge Justice Maraga for the post of CJ. Throughout his career, Justice Maraga has distinguished himself as a diligent, God fearing, a dedicated and resolute worker in the Judiciary,” acknowledged Ongwae.
He added, “On behalf of Kisii County government and myself, I would like to congratulate Justice Maraga on his nomination for the important post. As a community, we are proud of his nomination and wish him the best as he waits for formal appointment and approval. We hope there will be no hitches in this process.”
Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to send Justice Maraga's name to the National Assembly for approval.
Justice Maraga was the third candidate to be interviewed for the Chief Justice post.
During the interview, Maraga noted that he will set measures which will bring confidence to the public by restructuring the Judiciary so it can be headed by a senior serving or retired jurist, who would investigate complaints against judges.
Maraga also said that he would open an email address where complaints could be sent as suggestion boxes are outdated and ineffective.
