Kenya national union of teachers (KNUT) secretary Gucha branch in Kisii County Lucy Machuki said teachers should not be limited to their quest to join active politics.
This comes after the education Cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i ordered that any teacher who is interested in politics should step aside from the profession to do politics other than juggling the two issues at ago.
Machuki said teachers should be given an opportunity to do politics so long as they balance the two and make sure school performances do not go down
“There is no mistake when teachers involve in politics they should participate in politics and they should not be limited,” said Machuki.
“Some of us are leaders in teachers’ unions and we were not appointed but we campaigned to be elected by other teachers and that is politics so no need to limit a teacher looking for a political seat it is normal,” added Machuki.
