Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula has rejected plans by Cotu Secretary General Francis Atwoli to name the Luhya community spokesman.
Together with Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale, the two leaders challenged Atwoli and asked him to say who had given him the authority to appoint the said spokesman.
Mr Wetang’ula said that Atwoli's move is “unacceptable” because it was equal to hand-picking and imposing a leader on the community.
“Mr Atwoli is my brother and friend but I do not support him on the issue of unveiling a spokesman for the Luhya community. He should first explain what method he used to identify the spokesman,” he said.
“If Mr Atwoli wants to appoint his spokesman that is fine but let him forget about imposing an individual as a spokesman for the community,” he added.
Wetangula was speaking on Friday at a burial ceremony at Lung’anyiro Village in Matungu.
