The Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ) has opposed the decision by Education CS Fred Matiang’i to move the University of Nairobi from the Kenya Science Campus and replace them with the Kenya Technical Teachers College.
According to the Star, the commission faulted Matiang’i’s directive on grounds that it contravened requirements set by the Fair Administrative Action Act, 2015.
Through Chairman Otiende Amollo, CAJ argued that the relocation could only be done on condition that all stakeholders had been consulted to ensure that everyone, including students, is satisfied.
"Relocating the campus would disrupt studies at the institution ... the school currently has two fully equipped laboratories which will also have to be surrendered," the Ombudsman said.
CAJ further demanded to get details on the reasons behind moving the college (KTTC) and what was to happen to their previous land
The Kenya Science College was established 1965 by a collaboration between Kenya and the Swedish government and was later elevated to a constituent college of the University of Nairobi after recommendations of the Public Universities Inspection Board.
