Mombasa Women Representative Mishi Mboko has hit out at the Jubilee administration for accusing the opposition of propagating hate speech.

In an article in The Star, the firebrand politician said it is the opposition’s constitutional right to express themselves."The Jubilee government must understand that we have freedom of expression and freedom of speech. It is our right to express ourselves and it is well anchored in the constitution," she said. While accusing the Jubilee leadership of allegedly targeting opposition leaders unfairly for telling Kenyans the truth, Mishi said that as leaders, they cannot overlook the myriad of challenges the people are facing. The lawmaker alleged that the Uhuru Kenyatta-led government is using a scheme of intimidating the opposition politicians so that they can perpetrate their leadership past 2017.“When you tell the truth the Jubilee government claims you have committed hate speech. However, it is not about hate speech – they just want to blackmail a good leader. It is not NASA flagbearer Raila Odinga alone being targetted by the Jubilee administration, they want to blackmail everyone in the opposition. They want to demean us.”"They don't want Kenyans to tell the truth so that they can stay in power after 2017. I am just wondering if leaders cannot tell the truth, who will tell Kenyans the truth! Who will talk about the Jubilee government oppression?" she added.Mishi who will not be defending her seat as she will be contesting the Likoni MP seat further called for free, fair, credible and peaceful elections.Mishi's hard-hitting statement comes at a time when Jubilee leadership wants ODM leader Raila Odinga to be charged for allegedly inciting communities over land issues.
