The donkeys were slaughtered on Monday night at Mastore Estate and the flesh taken away.

The owners of the animals were shocked to find only bones, skins, hoofs, dung and pools of blood were all that were left of the animals.

Charles Kamau, a donkey cart operator, said he was shocked to find his two donkeys among those that were slaughtered and the carcasses left in the open.

“I tethered the animals next to my house last evening, but in the morning they were missing. Later, I received a phone call from a friend on his way to Juja Farm from Juja town who informed me there are carcasses near Salama Estate. When I came I found my two donkeys slaughtered,” said Kamau.

He lamented the killing of his donkeys and said the move had rendered him jobless as he relied on the animals in his job.

Another farmer, David Muohi, called on the police to investigate the matter and arrest those involved.

"This trade is controlled by a powerful cartel that sells the meat in Kiambu and Nairobi. The masterminds should be arrested and brought to book," said Muohi, who lost a donkey.
