Lamu East MP Shariff Athman has downplayed allegations that a section of tycoons from the county want to remove Governor Issa Timamy from power in the forthcoming general election.
This comes after reports emerged indicating that wealthy businessmen from Lamu had hatched a plot to back Timamy's opponent with the intention of unseating him.
In an interview with The Star on Wednesday, Athman said the allegations were baseless, adding that the county boss should carry his own cross as we head to the polls.
The MP accused Timamy of failing to keep his pre-election promises, adding that the governor has done little to improve the welfare residents.
Athman said he is confident Timamy will not retain his seat in August due to his poor performance record.
“The governor failed the people of Lamu by not initiating any project to improve lives. What we are seeing now are projects initiated by the national government,” said Athaman, as quoted by the local daily.
He further said residents in the county are no longer interested in leaders who engage in blame games, but instead want development oriented leaders.
“People want good health, jobs and better lives, not blame games,” he added.
