Siaya Senator James Orengo has poked holes in President Uhuru Kenyatta's resolve that the repeat presidential election must be held on October 26.

Speaking during a NASA rally in Nairobi, Orengo said Uhuru is a temporary president with limited powers on election matters.

"Under the Constitution, Uhuru has no powers to call for an election or insist that there is an election," the Senator said.

The President has maintained that the IEBC must conduct the fresh election within 60 days as ordered by the Supreme Court.

"The repeat election must be held on October 26 as planned. If Raila Odinga is not interested in participating in the poll, let him stop inciting his supporters to disrupt IEBC preparations and attacking the commission's officials," he said.

The Head of State added: "No Kenyan will be forced to take part in the polls if he or she is not willing to do so."

Orengo said following the resignation of Commissioner Roselyne Akombe, the electoral agency was not in a position to hold free, fair, credible and transparent elections.

"One of the irreducible minimums we set out is that Chiloba must exit the commission together with Abdi Guliye and the others mentioned," he said, adding that the Opposition won't allow the election to take place.
