Meru County senator Kiraitu Murungi has assured Deputy President William Ruto of Mt Kenya region’s support for his 2022 presidential bid.
On Saturday, senator Murungi said that the region was fully behind Deputy President Ruto presidential bid come 2022.
Kiraitu, while faulting recent comments by Kiambu Governor William Kabogo that the region will not vote for Ruto come 2022, said that Ruto has their support and will keep their promise.
“Our support for DP Ruto cannot be disputed and in 2022 we will stand with him,” said the Meru senator.
“We had a deal with DP Ruto that saw Uhuru elected as President and the same will be replicated by us in 2022,” he added.
Murungi also asked Mt Kenya leaders to stop making statements that could create political anxiety.
Kabogo has been on the spot for the statement he made, with Mt Kenya leaders demanding an apology.
The defiant Kiambu Governor however maintains that he spoke in good faith and that DP Ruto is his personal friend, and as such, he must tell him the truth.
