This comes after an emotional Kenyatta accused the opposition of plotting to oust the commission using unconstitutional means during his tour to Mandera.

The opposition, on the other hand, vowed to continue with their weekly protests till the government paves the way for structured dialogue.

Speaking to the reporter on Friday, Senator Janet Ong’era said the matter was of great concern and it needed a round table discussion.

“I am shocked that the president can hide in the constitution when addressing critical issues like elections," said Ong'era.

"He should read the mood on the ground and allow dialogue to take place for the sake of the country," she said.

“He has flouted the constitution in a number of times so he can’t purport to be defending the same constitution. This hypocrisy must and should stop completely," said Ong'era.

"We want a dialogue and find the way forward on having credible elections,” she added.

She challenged the president to approach the matter with sobriety for the sake of strengthening the commission by reconstituting it.

“If he doesn’t fear polls, he should join calls to disband that commission. It’s useless to go around castigating opposition yet we have a real problem that should be addressed in a round table,” she said.
