According to Kisumu Central legislator Fred Ouda, the fact that Ruto is serving his second term as the country's second in command, that does not make him a frontrunner in the next general election.

"Being near the kitchen door does not make you a cook," the MP observed.

Ouda made the remarks during a homecoming party of Tiaty MP William Kamket over the weekend in Baringo County.

Speaking at the same event, Emurua Dikirr lawmaker Johanna Ngeno listed a number former Vice Presidents who believed that they could take over from their bosses but ended up frustrated.

"Ruto may be ahead of everyone else, but Kalonzo Musyoka was once Vice President; he is now watching on the sidelines," said Ngeno.

The MP endorsed Baringo Senator Gideon Moi for presidency, saying he had all what it takes to move the country to the next level.

"I have observed closely and I can say without fear of contradiction that Senator Moi is 'ripe' to be President," Ngeno added.

However, Moi, who was present at the function, kept off succession politics and instead asked politicians to focus on development.
