Kiambu senator Kimani Wamatangi has asked the new Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati to deliver credible and transparent August 8 polls.
Wamatangi says that IEBC has no option but to deliver credible polls.
Speaking on Citizen TV Power Breakfast Show on Thursday, the Kiambu senator said that Kenyans are looking on IEBC for credible polls.
“The IEBC chairman Mr Chebukati and the six commissioners must hit the road running and deliver credible August 8 general elections,” he said.
The senator said that the commission has a lot of work to do in preparation for the general elections.
Wamatangi urged the commission to work tirelessly to beat deadlines in readiness for the August 8 polls.
The senator at the same time warned politicians against intruding into the IEBC affairs.
He said that IEBC is an independent office that is protected by the constitution.
He warned that political interference could cripple the activities of the commission ahead of the general elections.
Wamatangi appealed to politicians across the political divide to support the new IEBC team saying that it is the only way the commission will gain public support and trust.
The new IEBC chairman and the six commissioners were on Wednesday appointed to office by President Uhuru Kenyatta after vetting and approval by the National Assembly.
