The Rift Valley Council of Elders has warned candidates who lost during the Jubilee Party primaries against vying as independents.

Speaking to the press in Nakuru on Monday, the group's spokesperson  Gilbert Kabage said aspirants vying on an independent ticket would suffer a heavy defeat during the August polls, noting that the dynamics will not change much.

"The same people who voted them out of the party primaries will be participating in the election," he said. 

"They will have no choice but to speak louder by casting their votes for fresh leadership," he added.

A number of candidates vying as independents lost during the party primaries, and have vowed to stiffen their bids during the forthcoming general elections.

They attributed their losses during the nominations to electoral malpractices and lack of democracy within political parties.

They have since formed a caucus dubbed the Kenya Alliance of independent candidates (KAIC).
