Former Kitutu Masaba MP Abuya Abuya insists Deputy President William Ruto ‘cost’ his presidential ambitions when he joined the Jubilee team.
Ruto, a former ally of Kenya opposition leader Raila Odinga ditched Orange Democratic Movement to join President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013 elections, but Abuya, a former seven bearded sister member who gave President Jomo Kenyatta sleepless nights reckons that Ruto’s presidential bid was dealt a blow when he joined Jubilee.
“I think his presidential ambitions were dealt a blow when he joined Jubilee in 2013. The coalition cost his dreams and I can advise him for free that he should forget the presidency,” Abuya said during a phone interview.
He said Ruto would have been assured of Odinga’s support rather than joining President Kenyatta’s team which he termed ‘unpredictable’.
“He is a charismatic leader who always wants to succeed. But I am afraid that he wont see State House unless a miracle happens. I have been in politics for long so you can take my prediction to the bank,” Abuya said.
“Odinga’s camp would have been his road to State House but he abandoned him when he needed his support the most. Uhuru Kenyatta’s team is unpredictable and I don’t think they will support his bid in 2022,” he said.
He however advised Ruto to decamp Jubilee before 2017 and side with opposition to ‘better’ his 2022 chances.
“It’s not yet late though. He can still join Odinga because I believe with him, Mr Ruto will easily clinch the presidency in 2022. He stands a better chance in Odinga’s camp than in Uhuru’s,” Abuya said.
