Anyone found throwing litter or spitting within Eldoret Central Business District will have to part with Sh500 as fine, Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno has said.
Speaking in his office on Monday, Chemno said the county government will sensitise the public on the new by-law before implementation.
"Throwing dirt and spitting anyhow in the CBD will attract a fine of Sh500. We want to keep our town clean," he said.
Chemno said the new by-law will be effective in the next two weeks.
"We will take a maximum of two weeks to educate the public on the by-law, and the fine they will pay if they violate it," he said.
He said the move is aimed at making Eldoret the cleanest town not only in Kenya, but in East and Central Africa to attract more investors.
He also said that the installation of security lights within the town will make it a 24-hour economy.
"We are discussing with the CeC in-charge of roads to identify which streets should be closed at night to allow hawkers conduct their businesses," he said.
