Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has told Governor Hassan Joho that he will only vie for presidency in 2022 if Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) leader Raila Odinga fails to defeat Uhuruto in 2017.
Omar said Joho's countrywide rallies are weakening Cord since Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has not involved Wiper Party and Ford Kenya in their campaigns.
The outspoken senator and Wiper leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka have accused the incumbent Joho and his Nairobi counterpart Dr Evans Kidero of engaging in politics that are likely to weaken the coalition.
He argued that Raila will not endorse Joho in 2022 if he makes it for presidency regardless of the role he plays during the campaigns.
Omar, who is Wiper Party’s secretary general, claimed that Joho and Kidero’s declaration to vie for presidency in 2022 is not a good idea for the coalition.
"These undercurrents, 2022 ambitions in ODM are working to weaken the Cord coalition,’’ said Omar while addressing the press on Tuesday at the Wiper headquarters in Lavington.
The senator also urged members of the coalition to remain united even after the election.
“We don’t want to hear ‘My President is ODM/Wiper/Ford Kenya’ when it is the coalition that has won. We want one Cord ticket where we agree on a coalition candidate,” Omar noted.
