On Monday during the Cord's protests, a police officer is said to have shot and killed a man during the demonstrations.

Several other people were injured and currently nursing gunshot wounds at various hospitals in the county.

“My heart goes out to the families who have lost their loved ones from police brutality in the ongoing anti- IEBC protests," he said in a statement adding that more than 20 people were injured during the protest.

Ranguma said: “Bearing in mind the huge loss these deaths have caused not only to the families but also to the country at large, as a nation, we must ask questions like what loss will it cause if the Jubilee government holds talks with the opposition to resolve the IEBC stalemate."

“Is dialogue costlier than the lives being lost and disruptions of businesses witnessed as a result of the standoff."

He said to quell the growing tension and curb wanton deaths, the Jubilee government must hold talks with the opposition and do so urgently.

"It is absolutely imperative that no one should hide behind "full force" orders towards our citizens who are protected by the very Constitution that officers have sworn to protect and adhere to,” he said adding that the High Court had once more, validated the right of citizens to peaceful protests and the police should avoid provoking violence by using brutal force.

During the demonstrations, learning in various schools within the town was disrupted as parents opted not to take their children to school for fear of their lives.

All the roads leading to and out of the city, including the Kisumu-Busia, Kisumu-Nairobi, Kisumu-Kakamega and that leading to the town centre were barricaded by demonstrators, who lit bonfires paralyzing transport services.
