Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has warned those defecting to his Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) party to be ready for a nominations contest.
The governor also promised a free and fair nomination, saying his party was a democratic party.
"We are very clear that where we have one candidate there will be no nomination but where there are two or more candidates we will carry out nomination," he said.
"We are a democratic party," he added.
He, however, said the party would resort to other methods if need be, in order to ensure they have democracy in the party.
"Our nomination, however, gives us a room to use poll system where we will focus on the most popular candidate," he said.
The political ground is shifting fast as the election date draws closer, with defections from the top parties being the order of the day.
