Young Environmentalist Lily Tanui Moimet has urged Kenyans to plant more trees during this rainy season.
This, according to her, will help to conserve the environment and attain 10 percent forest cover.
“It is sad that over 1/4 of Kenya’s forest cover have been destroyed. I want to encourage every Kenyan to grow as many trees as possible during the rainy period in order to save dwindling forest cover," she said in Eldoret town after planting a tree, Tuesday.
"Deforestation has led to unpredictable weather patterns. Kenyans should stop talking about conserving the environment but instead plant trees," he added.
"I want to follow the footsteps of Professor Wangari Maathai by educating people on the importance of planting trees and ensure that everyone participate in environment conversation. We want to ensure that our country has 10 percent forest cover," noted Moimet.
Lily Tanui 17 years old is a Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) alumnus who is passionate about environmental conservation currently studying at Bunyore girls and has planted over 2,000 trees and 3,000 seedlings.
