According to witnesses, they heard screams from Samuel Atumba’s home deep into the night, only to find the house on fire.

“It was approaching midnight when we were awaken by screams and when we woke up to hear what was happening, we realized it was Atumba’s house that was on fire. They managed to escape but their eight year-old daughter was trapped inside and burnt beyond recognition,” a neighbor narrated.

Some of the residents relate the incident to land dispute that has been ongoing for sometime now.

“We suspect the dispute that has been going on in the family over land to be the cause of the incident and therefore, we distant natural as to one of the cause,” another neighbor noted.

However, residents have condemned the incident and asked the government to conduct thorough investigations and apprehend the perpetrators.

“We ask the government to conduct in-depth investigation and bring perpetrators to book we do not want to take the law in our hands,” said one resident.

Area county Representative Dennis Ombachi has appealed to well wishers to donate items of any kind to help the family pick up the pieces.

“I appeal to the heart-felt to donate materials like blankets, clothes, food and even financial support, to help the family revert since all of their belongings were destroyed in the fire,” appealed the MCA.
