Looking for employment is a hard task to any person but it can be easier if your cover letter and curriculum vitae are simple to read.

Youths in Kibera were tipped on how to write effective job application cover letters.

The youths who had gathered at Shadrack Kimalel Secondary School on Tuesday were told to ensure their cover letters are appealing to their prospect employers and straight to the point.

Speaker Michael Kamau said most of young graduates make mistakes when writing cover letters by including unnecessary information.

This makes the cover letter very long.

"Remember human resource managers are always busy and they receive application letters every day. The shorter your letter is the better because it will trigger the human resource person to read it. However, the letter should be short but should have all the facts needed,’ said Michael.

Another speaker, Vivian Kamau also said that CV should never go beyond five pages for young graduates.

"There are people who write unnecessary information in their curriculum vitae. These kills the juicy parts of the CV. Also, it makes it lengthy therefore hard for people to read. No one will want to waste time reading one CV. It should always be brief to save time," she added.
