They say lightning does not strike at the same place twice, but for 21 year old widow Queenter Oguta that phrase might not ring a bell anymore.

Queenter is mourning the death of her only son Ryan Oscar Gumba just six months after losing her husband Wycliffe Oguta, a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier in Somalia.

“My husband’s death changed everything. It was like everyone turned against me; my friends and even my in-laws,” said the 21 year old in an interview with Nairobi News

The young widow was informed about her son’s death on July 11, while attending the KDF widow’s association meeting in Nairobi.

“Everything happened in the blink of an eye. My mother in-law informed me that my son was seriously ill and they had to take him to hospital. I left Nairobi immediately for Homa Bay. But while I was in the bus I received the devastating news of my son’s death,” she added

Baby Ryan was laid to rest on July 12 in Homa Bay where Ms Queenter has been unable to access her matrimonial home and has been forced to rent a house elsewhere.

Despite the double tragedy that has befallen her in her tender age, Queenter plans to go to college and study nursing.
