Ruto, then a close ally of Odinga fell out with him moments after the formation of grand coalition government in 2009 before teaming up with President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013.

Gichaba Simba who contested unsuccessfully for the Kitutu Masaba parliamentary seat on KANU ticket in 90s said Ruto’s chances of being backed by his boss in Jubilee were minimal than they could be in Odinga’s side.

“I love the zeal and charisma in the Deputy President, but I am sorry to say his presidential ambitions died in 2013 after he teamed up with President Uhuru Kenyatta,” Gichana said in an exclusive interview.

“History doesn’t lie and I can tell you for fact that Mt. Kenya region can never rally behind him and I will be vindicated if Uhuru wins in 2017. The region supports one of its own and Ruto is viewed as an outsider,” he added.

He said it’s only Raila’s support that could help him to clinch Presidency and urged him to team up with the Cord leader to reignite his 2022 ambitions.

“I think Raila’s support for him could have been guaranteed than President Kenyatta. It’s however not late because he can go back and support Odinga in 2017 as he reorganizes his strategies for 2022. That is the only way he can survive in Kenyan politics,” he said.
